The long running feud between LG Electronics (LG), and Hitachi escalated yesterday as LG announced they had filed a countersuit against Hitachi America Ltd., Hitachi Ltd. and Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd., claiming Hitachi are infringing on patents for LG’s PDP technology relating to methods for driving plasma display panels as well as three patents related to apparatus and cell structure of plasma display panels. The 2 sides have been at odds since 2005. In April, Hitachi filed a suit against LG for patent infringement on similar technologies, claiming they were Hitachi’s proprietary technologies. LG’s action yesterday is a countersuit against this claim.
