LG 50PB65 Plasma HDTV

October 18, 2007

HDTV.LG 50PB65.jpgLG is doing its very level best to revive the fortunes of the beleaguered Plasma TV industry. So long as these screens will turn a profit, LG will continue to support them. And in the LG 50PB65 they have produced an impressive 50 inch TV, again based on their Chocolate Mobile Phone range, at a fantastic budget price which by all accounts scrubs up pretty well when compared to other more expensive models, although its not without its flaws. cnet review the LG 50PB65 and write:

You have to take your hat off to the LG 50PB65 for being the first mainstream brand model we’ve seen to offer a well-specified 50-inch TV for under £1,200. But perhaps inevitably you need to be prepared to accept a few sacrifices on the performance side in return for the money you’re saving

LG 60PF95

Its hard to believe that this 60inch behemoth is a TV inspired by a mobile phone, but it is - honest. LG’s once popular ‘chocolate’ mobile in fact, and it comes complete with touch sensitive panels and glowing red buttons which create a futuristic sense of style which is hard to ignore - unless you aren’t using them. Which is the point. LG have tried hard to make the on-board controls as unobtrusive as possible, relying instead on the more significant other qualities to attract your attention, not least of which is the now mandatory 1080p plasma screen. There are 2 HDMI ports and a component video in, both capable of carrying a 1080p source which is good news for XBOX 360 owners since this ensures that the LG 60PF95 is capable of playing full resolution 1080p pictures from multiple sources and not only that can render them at the native 24fps. At £3500 tho it doesn’t come cheap, but it certainly earns the price tag. Colours are rendered vividly with high definition sources, but if you are intending to buy this TV to watch standard definition then maybe you should think again. Its designed with hight definition in mind and that is where it excels.

Its Plasmas at Dawn as LG Sue Hitachi

June 18, 2007

Lifes GoodThe long running feud between LG Electronics (LG), and Hitachi escalated yesterday as LG announced they had filed a countersuit against Hitachi America Ltd., Hitachi Ltd. and Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd., claiming Hitachi are infringing on patents for LG’s PDP technology relating to methods for driving plasma display panels as well as three patents related to apparatus and cell structure of plasma display panels. The 2 sides have been at odds since 2005. In April, Hitachi filed a suit against LG for patent infringement on similar technologies, claiming they were Hitachi’s proprietary technologies. LG’s action yesterday is a countersuit against this claim.
